Mexico native, Tyronn Lue will return fro a "Home Court Shout Out", homecoming celebration on July 2, 2016. Lue is the Cleveland Cavaliers' Head Coach and recently led the team to the 2016 NBA Championship, for the first time in 52 years. Lue's eleven year career as a player landed him two previous NBA Championships. Immediately following the win, Lue gave not one, but two shout outs to his hometown, Mexico, MO. To show the immense pride that Mexico has in their hometown hero on his return to his "home court", a city wide celebration is planned.
The celebration will kick off when Mr. Lue's motorcade arrives in Mexico at 11:00 a.m. It will be escorted by Mexico Public Safety, Little Dixie Fire District and school buses filled with summer school students from Mexico Public Schools. Along with the Mexico Dixie Gray Bank, the fans are invited to wear Cavalier colors (wine and gold) and line the motorcade route from the corner of Boulevard and Clark Street to Garfield Park. Once on Trinity Street, the crowd is encouraged to join in on foot and follow the procession to the park.
At the event in Garfield Park, presentations from Mexico Public Schools, Mexico Area Chamber of Commerce, the City of Mexico and Audrain County officials will be made in honor of Mr. Lue. A choir of children from Second Missionary Baptist Church, St. Luke United Methodist Church and St. Paul CME Church will perform a special musical selection. The event will culminate with Mr. Lue addressing the crowd.
A limited number of car window clings and t-shirts commemorating the event will be available for purchase starting Wednesday, June 29th at Mexico Area Chamber of Commerce, 100 West Jackson Street for $10.
