Mexico is proud to be the home of the Missouri Military Academy.  This leading prep school has served students from all over the United States and many other countries since 1889; the school moved to its current location in 1900 after the original campus burned in 1896.

In June of 1985, the Academy was designated by the U.S. Department of Education as one of the nation's 65 Exemplary Private Schools, the only military school so honored.  The U.S. Army has rated MMA an Honor School since 1930, and in recent years, it ranked as the top Junior ROTC unit in the Midwest, an Honor School with Distinction.
 

The Academy is also host to the annual Miss Missouri Scholarship Pageant.
