Audrain Medical Center

The initial fund for the first "Mexico Hospital" was begun with donations from Allen P. Green of A.P. Green Refractories and Col. Robert M. White, editor of the Mexico Ledger.  The Mexico Hospital Association was formed: while Green canvassed institutions across the country to learn the workings of a hospital, other officers worked to raise more money.  With assistance and contributions from all over Audrain County and beyond, the hospital opened in the former Windsor Hotel in December of 1912.

With the aid of the 1917 County Hospital Law (of which Green was an avid supporter), Audrain County formed the first county hospital in Missouri in 1918.  Voters passed two bond issues totalling $115,000.  Audrain Hospital opened on its current site in December of 1920.  Green was honored by the Board of Directors with the title "Father of the Audrain Hospital".

After numerous renovations, the Audrain Medical Center of today has a wide scope of services ranging from cardiovascular procedures and urology to women's health and emergency services.
