2010 Rules & Regulations

Print a Mexico Farmers' Market Season Pass Application

1. The Mexico Area Farmers’ Market is a project of the Mexico Chamber of Commerce (hereafter referred to as the (MCC) The market will be open on the Washington Street side of Hardin Park in Mexico, Missouri, from 8:00am to 11:00am each Saturday from May 1, 2010, through October 2, 2010. The Market will be open on Wednesday, 4:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. during times of abundance (TENTATIVE DATES July 15 to August 18, 2010) as determined by the Market Master and the vendors. MCC will provide the Market Master.

2. Vendors will head into the parking space assigned them by the Market Master and may set up their area at the back of their vehicle in the street. No sales will be allowed on the park side of the vehicle; all sales must be in the assigned spaces on either side of Washington Street. Season Pass holders will be assigned a space for the entire season.

3. Only vendors of fresh fruits, vegetables, berries, plants, fresh and dried flowers are eligible to participate. Any item not listed above must be approved by the MCC. Vendors who desire to sell honey, picked-out-nuts, molasses, cider, baked goods, etc. must obtain a Permit from the Audrain City/County Health Unit (573-581-1332) or their local health department. A new inspection is required for each season (year) of the Market.

4. Food products cannot be cut, plugged or opened for display at the market. Free samples should not be given to customers.

5. Residents of Audrain, Boone, Callaway, Monroe, Montgomery, Pike and Ralls counties may become vendors. Any vendor growing products outside this area must be individually approved by the MCC. No out-of-state vendors allowed.

6. Purchase of products from wholesalers or other growers for resale is forbidden. The Market Master reserves the right to inspect a vendor’s farm or growing area to insure that all products are locally grown.

7. Each vendor may set his own prices with consideration given to customer satisfaction and other market vendors. Each vendor must have certified scales if selling products by weight and must provide display racks or tables, sacks and money for change. Prices must be posted in full view of the customer.

8. Any grievances regarding the actions or prices of other vendors must be brought to the attention of the MCC, not directed to the vendor in question. The Market Master will determine if a vendors’ meeting needs to be called to settle the grievance.

9. Vendors may arrive and set up their market stalls up to one hour before opening time. 30 minutes will be allowed for finishing sales and clean up after closing time.

10. It is the responsibility of each vendor to maintain, clean, and provide healthful conditions within his/her area. The area must be free of debris. Products should be displayed in an orderly and attractive manner.

Vendors are encouraged to use unit pricing where possible. The vendor is responsible for using a certified scale for products sold by weight.

The MCC is not responsible for product liability or the payment of sales tax for individual vendors.

Due to public health and safety concerns, the Market prohibits the sale of animal products, i.e. honey, eggs, hams, bacon, etc. home baked goods, or home canned items, UNLESS THE VENDOR HAS WRITTEN APPROVAL FROM THE MEXICO/ AUDRAIN CITY- COUNTY HEALTH UNIT or has a USDA seal and permission from the MCC. Vendors from other areas must have an inspection from their county health department which will be filed with the Audrain Health Unit.

Livestock (chicks, bunnies, etc.) may not be sold at the Market. Crafts are allowed only if at least 50% of the space is used to sell the items stipulated in #3 above.

For the 2010 season the following shall apply: A season pass will be issued for the entire season upon receipt of a signed agreement and the $65.00 fee. This will entitle the vendor (family) to sell each Saturday from May through October, and the Wednesdays the Market is open. A Season Pass will be issued and should be displayed. Vendors not purchasing a season pass will pay a daily rate of $7.00 to be paid no later than 8:00am each Saturday or 4:30pm each Wednesday.

No sales will be made, and no items may be “put back” for sale prior to the official starting time of the market. Vendors may take advance orders prior to the sale day, but may not reserve items on market day at the site prior to the official opening whistle.

No political signs may be displayed, no petitions may be circulated, and no solicitations may be made on behalf of any “cause” or commercial venue to vendors or customers at Mexico Farmers’ Market.

The Mexico Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Mexico reserve the right to cancel the Farmers’ Market at their discretion.
